About me

Dave was born on September 29th 1975 in Scunthorpe and lived in a near-by village called Winteringham. In Winteringham Dave attended the Infants and Primary school then moved on to Winterton Comprehensive School when he was 11.

Dave took up darts at the age of 8 and by the time he was 12,he was regually attending the local pub (Ferryboat) in Winteringham with his dad and his friends playing darts. He played the Winterton and District darts and dominoes league and also the Barton and Distict league. In his first year in the Barton and District league he set a league record that still stands today - 8 tons in one night.

When Dave was 13 he won the Coventry Junior and Senior titles in the same weekend and his darts career had started. Locally he was asked to join the Scunthorpe Super League but he was not allowed because the minumum age was 18. An AGM was called with the main topic being hiself and if he should be allowed to play. It was voted 5 votes to 4 that he could play BUT had to call all local pubs before going to away matches and his dad had to accompany me at all times.

His first game in the Scunthorpe Super League was a 2-0 success and a 27.83 average.

In 2001 Dave hit the magical 9-dart finish in the Yorkshire Classic and got £260 from a collection at the event.

In 2002 Dave joined the PDPA which is part of the PDC set-up. The main reason he joined these was because the standard was much higher and also the prize money was higher. Unfortunately the entry fees were also much higher which mean't that I could only go to possibly 5% of the tournaments which the PDC held. In 2003 he qualified for the finals of the UK open by beating John Lowe at Manchester. This was shown live on Sky Sports and he went out in the second round to Barrie Bates of Wales. This was one round before any payout of prize money so again he was set back.

In June 2006 he made the decision to play one more PDC event then resign from them because of increased costs. In this event he won £150 so he decided to play on with this £150 and enter 2 more tournaments. He won money in one of them plus won the Dene Park Classic in Hull which gave him a further £200. From here until the World Professional qualifiers at Villa Park in December 2006 he basically just pottered along making money to fund the next tournament.

At Villa Park he used his last £100 to enter the play-offs and again went with the attitude that if he did not win then he would quit the PDC and play the BDO system which is much cheaper. He had a fantastic day at Villa Park beating Dale Newton (qualifier in 2005), Keith Deller (World Champion 1983) and in the final beating Robbie Green whom at this time was personally sponsored by Phil Taylor – PDC World Number 1) and was to become a top BDO player and England International in 2009.

This then guaranteed Dave £3500 and after beating Lionel Sams (World Number 22) live on Sky Sports he was then guaranteed £5000 and a place in the second round against James Wade (World Number 11). He lost in the match against James Wade by 4 sets to 3 and even had one dart at double 17 to win and go into the last 16 in the World Championships. Highlights of this match can be seen on the photo section of this website (youtube edited clip).

Dave spent 3.5 hours on Live TV (Sky Sports 1) and thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

Since then he have done the PDC Pro Tour and had some great individual successes although no great tournament run up to date – these I am sure will come if he maintain the same positive attitude towards my game.

In 2009 Dave joined up with Dave Holland Management who has worked very hard trying to get sponsorship which would allow him to carry on playing the PDC Pro tour over the next 2 years. Sponsorship deals dont come much bigger than deals off a National Newspaper and in April 2010 Dave signed with The Daily Sport where a double page spread was done with Dave and Jenny Laird at the Fox Inn at Ulceby in his home county of Noth Lincolnshire. The paper clips of this can be seen in the photo section of this website.
